Content Generation Ideas for Your Blog
Blogs are not just good SEO strategy. Relevant and well-written blogs can actually help you build customer loyalty and establish your brand as a leader and expert in the eyes of your readers. The important thing is that your blog gets regularly updated. If your readers do not hear from you or if they visit your blog and do not find anything new, they will tend to forget about you and move on to the next interesting thing.
Indeed, you need to regularly provide fresh content. But how do you keep them coming and keep them fresh? Here are some ideas:
- Keep a file. Did something catch your attention while you were surfing or going through your social media newsfeed? Did you have a brainstorm with your team about what to put in your blog? Did you see an interesting entry from a competitor’s blog? Keep these ideas in a file that you can go through whenever you get an attack of writer’s block.
- Benchmark from others. Go to your competitors’ and industry websites and blogs to see what they have to offer. Of course, you should not copy their content – that will be wrong on a lot of levels and will not be good for your blog. But, you can tweak the idea you have taken and make it yours by expanding on it or trying to look at the topic from a different perspective.
- Ask your readers. If you have a strong following, ask them what they want to see on your blog. Do they have questions about your products or the latest trends in your industry? Asking your readers increases their engagement to your blog and also shows them that you are listening to your readers.
- Look at the trending topics. What are the key search words used on major search engines? What is the trending hash tag on Twitter and other social networking sites? What do you see on the news? You can relate these trending topics to your brand or you can simply have your say about these current events or issues.
- Provide information. Readers will appreciate it when you give them practical and useful information via guides and tutorials. You can even string this out so you can have a series of blogs for a single topic. You can then link to past entries that relate to your current subject.
- Visit forums. General forums such as Quora and industry forums are a good source of content ideas. This is where you will usually see which topics garner a lot of responses and engagement.
- Latest research, industry publications and videos. You can create infographics, tips or simply talk about the newest publication or research results. Also, you can share trending videos that relate to your industry. Be sure to cite your sources. When you are surfing for the latest publications, be sure to also check out the comment sections to see if there are relevant questions about the publication that readers are asking and you can answer.
- Throwback posts. What past posts in your blog were particularly popular? You can recycle and upcycle this content via a throwback post.
- A post does not need to be long to be interesting. Post a quote from key people in the industry or a humorous quote to describe your day. An interesting enough quote can be worth a significant number of shares by you readers.
